Trump’s Speech: Rhetoric vs. Specifics

Oh well, another rhetorical Presidential speech to both houses of Congress; however, what Presidential speech in front of Congress EVER laid out a lot of specifics?
Then there’s Cory Booker, a rising star in the Democratic Party: “This speech was more of the same fear and factual distortion that President Trump has made central to his campaign, transition and first weeks in office”. Sorry Mr. Booker, but I read the whole transcript and I did not see the “factual distortion” you referenced. This country is in decline, it does have illegal immigrants in it causing havoc, ObamaCare is slowly but surely collapsing under its own weight, with insurers exiting the program regularly, and many more factual issues Trump laid out.
Then there was former Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear’s Democratic response to the speech where he said his “party would oppose every GOP move to undo the 2010 health law they view as a signature domestic achievement of former President Barack Obama”. Sadly, Mr. Beshear must have forgotten all the lies that were spewed to get the ACA passed:
> “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”. How many times did we hear that? Well, as a result of the ACA’s narrow provider networks, millions of Americans have been unable to continue to see their existing physician. And how about:
> “If you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance”. Again, how many times was that reiterated. The fact is millions of Americans lost their existing and had to find new insurance when the law went into effect. And then there was:
> “The typical family will see their insurance premiums reduced by as much as $2,500”. Does anyone remember that one? In fact, millions of families have seen their premiums increased by double digits, with higher premiums AND higher deductibles, EVERY YEAR since the law was passed.
As many that might be reading this know, I could go on, but what would be the point of that? Negativism just to be negative.
Then there was Mr. Beshear’s “We Democrats are going to do everything in our power to keep President Trump and the Republican Congress from reneging on that commitment”. I know. That’s almost verbatim to McConnell’s “My number one priority is making sure President Obama’s a one term President”. So now we’re going to get 4 and maybe 8 more years of gridlock?!? When will this crap of one side against the other end?
